Overview

Take a journey to Real del Monte and Huasca de Ocampo, 2 towns whose natural beauty and historical relevance earn them each spots on the Mexican Secretariat of Tourism's list of Pueblos Mágicos. Explore their stunning colonial architecture and surrounding basaltic formations on this tour.

Your first stop is Real del Monte, a small mining town located at an altitude of 8,900 feet (2,700 m). There you'll have a guided tour on the center of the town, where you'll learn about the colonial times, their gastronomy, etc. Enjoy free time to stroll the city's charming streets and, if you want, sink your teeth into pulque bread, pastes, and plenty of other delicacies famous in the area.

Then head to the Basaltic Prisms, a collection of towering basalt rock columns lining a ravine that were formed by the cooling of volcanic lava. Take time to admire its 4 waterfalls.

Continue to Huasca de Ocampo, where you’ll have time to take pictures and walk around its streets.

Magic Towns

The guide I had, Liliana, was excellent. She was super kind and informative. She spoke in English while there was another guide that spoke to those who only understand Spanish. We also had another that drove the bus for us. The guides were very kind and the trip was great. Really interesting places to visit! Definitely worth seeing.

I went solo while the others in our were in duos. I wasn’t ever left behind. Our guide was great – giving us updates as we moved along in the tour, and preparing us for what was coming next. He gave great, thorough history and information about each location, enough free time to explore, and always provided a specific meeting point and time. I would definitely use Amigo Tours again when back in Mexico.

Pleasant journey with Sergio and Omr. They arrived early. Ensured we got had enough time at each stop. Sergio is particularly jolly. He laughed alot which added greatly to the atmosphere. Recommend this tour highly.
Great escape from the city

I heard about Magic Towns in a travel search but had no way to easily get to one until I found this tour. The small group tour met near the Palace of Fine Arts and we were soon traveling out of the city in a small air conditioned bus. Along the way, our cute and knowledgeable guide Lulu told us the history of the Pueblos Magicos and specifically the towns we were traveling to. We stopped at a British Cemetery and learned the history of the interned before moving to check out the down town. We were given free time to buy Pastes and do some shopping before moving to a prismatic rock formation. We were given able free time there to explore before moving to out final destination at a hacienda. Lulu told us the story of the compound, showed us interesting details, the we boarded the bus back to the city.

Overall this was a great tour that filled the day with activities and sites. I would definitely do this again.
