Overview

On this food tour in Mexico City, we’ll be exploring the district’s deep tracks – with an emphasis on the out-of-the-way food spots. We’ll start the day off by visiting two neighborhood breakfast institutions. As we work our way through the bustling Centro’s cobblestoned streets, we’ll also stop by several beloved food stands, from one serving the area’s best carnitas to another that sells escamocho, a tropical fruit cocktail like no other. We’ll duck into a side alley for homey enchiladas at a workers’ lunch spot and explore the edible offerings at a 1930s-era covered market that is also home to a stunning display of public art. There will be a stop for a bite and a drink with the regulars at a neighborhood cantina that remains unchanged from when it first opened 100 years ago and then, to end the day, a sit down at another classic cantina for a meal of botanas, hearty home-style dishes that redefine upwards the concept of “bar snacks.”

Fun and informative jaunt through historical part of Mexico City. Our guide, Liz was knowledgeable and personable as she guided us through a wide sampling of local delicacies from restaurants and small neighborhood food vendors both on and off the beaten track. Delicious and well worth making a part of your visit!

Our food tour through Centro Histórico was fantastic! Our tour guide Paco did a wonderful job of weaving food, facts and storytelling into our time. We ate some delicious food and met some wonderful food vendors. I highly recommend Culinary Backstreets. This is our 2nd food tour with them in Mexico City.

This tour was fantastic. Our guide, Cristobal, took us to local spots with amazing food and was also really knowledgeable regarding the history and culture of Mexico City. We never would have had this experience without the tour. Thanks so much.

Elizabeth was a most excellent guide. I lost track of how many stops we made! Easily 10-12 and an incredible variety. Each stop included history, cultural and amusing anecdotes. We started with coffee and bombas pastries and ended with a traditional tequila shot.
Awesome tour

I cannot recommend this tour highly enough! An excellent way to know parts of the city we would have missed otherwise, while having excellent street food and drinks we did not know existed. Our guide Liz was knowledgeable about food, history and culture, so eager to share this knowledge and to show parts of the city and so friendly! Thank you, Liz! We had a truly memorable time and looking forward to more culinary backstreets tours in the future.
