Worth the Drive!
Cesar_J, 27-12-2022
This was a trip that was worth every dollar! And a review that is long overdue :)

I think it starts with the driver, who sets the tone for the trip. Our driver Mauricio Becerril was the best! He was punctual, very courteous & patient with us. He was mindful as well, as he made stops to give us a bathroom break.

The ride from Mexico City to Cachuamilpa was about 2 hours. We got safely to our destination and waited to go inside the caves. Mauricio told us to take our time and he would wait for us outside. We saw bats at the entry of the caves, which was pretty cool. The caves themselves were amazing. Mind blowing to see all the natural formations that took place inside the caves. We were part of a tour but decided to leave the tour and go on our own as we couldn't hear the guide well. The caves have a lit up path and you can only go so far in as when you reach the end, it turns you around. I would suggest you were comfortable shoes, and bring water... After coming out the cave (about 4 miles walking distance to and from), we were greeted by food and beverage vendors. We walked over to one of the little stores and got some adult beverages and enjoyed some homemade snacks. Mauricio then spotted us and joined us. We then left for Taxco.

Taxco is an amazing place with amazing food! The ride from Cacahuamilpa to Taxco was about an hour. We got the the downtown area and Mauricio dropped us off. He told us where to meet him after we explored the area and had lunch. Taxco is a very small pueblo with a lot of History. We enjoyed walking around, shopping and had lunch at a rooftop restaurant, which had some of the most delicious farm-to-table type of food we had throughout our trip. We will definitely come back to Taxco!

We left Taxco and headed back to Mexico City. Maurcio was a pleasure to be with during our ride. We felt very safe with him. I'm certain that all the drivers hired for these tours are great but if you get a chance to request one, ask for Mauricio!
Magical caves and pueblas!

Caves are a natural geologic wonder. Taxco is beautiful. Our driver Javier spoke excellent english and answered my many questions about sites along the road. A great change of pace from the CDMX metropolis
Perfect day!

We shared a car with two other couples who all spoke English. Chatting with them made the drive go by super quick! The caves were very cool. Definitely worth the trip. It’s hot and humid down there (we didn’t dress appropriately and we’re quite warm!). Taxco is adorable, beautiful and full of history. It was a perfect day. All our tour guides were excellent!
Beautiful views, high up in mountains

Taxco was beautiful! High elevation, gorgeous views. Shopping, lunch, not much else to do... Caves were very cool and expansive! Over mile walk in and mile out. 2hr drive there and back where you can see all the green mountains of Mexico and drive past a fee towns. Enjoyable day! Something different to do!
Okay Experience

It was great to see the caves, and this was one of the only options I could find to go there. However, the tour overall was just okay and it ended up costing us more than anticipated with the extra charges throughout the day.

I have been on many tours with energetic and engaging guides, but this tour did not have an overall tour guide, and we were with only the driver for most of the day. On most tours where there is a long drive, there is commentary on the surrounding area and culture (like was stated in the inclusions). The driver barely spoke during the entire trip and didn't communicate what to do once we arrived in a place. We only found out how long we had in certain places and when to meet back at the van when we asked him.

We left right on time from the Sheraton at 8 am, but were still 10 minutes late to the 10 am guided tour of the caves, so we had to pay an extra 450 pesos for another guide or wait until 11 am and have a shorter time in Taxco. In Taxco, we had to buy our own tickets for the gondola ride. With tipping the 3 guides (driver, cave guide and Taxco guide), the price of lunch, the extra cost for the tour at the caves and the gondola ride, the tour ended up costing us more than expected.
